You Can Now Renew Your Dog's License Online
Your dog's rabies information must be current in our system in order to renew online.
If the rabies vaccination information on the renewal notice is blank (see below), scan proof of rabies to PDF, JPEG or TIFF and submit via this form. Please make sure the certificate shows all of the information in the image below. We will update the information in the system and you will be able to proceed with the renewal - typically on the next business day.

Are your records up to date?
Have you turned 65 since your dog's last renewal? Has the dog received an updated rabies vaccination? Have you (or the dog) moved to a new home? Has the dog passed away? Do you have a new phone number or email address?

New York State Law requires that all dogs living within New York State be licensed upon reaching four months of age.
Brighton Town Code requires that the identification tag issued when the dog is first licensed shall be affixed to a collar on the dog at all times.
The Following is Required When Licensing a Dog
Un-spayed or un-neutered dogs require Veterinarian's Certificate indicating current rabies vaccination.
Spayed or neutered dogs require Veterinarian's Certificate indicating current rabies vaccination and Veterinarian's Certificate of Spaying/Neutering.
To License Your Dog in Person
Bring your rabies documentation, certificate of spay/neuter (if applicable) and cash/check/credit for the appropriate fee.
To License Your Dog by Mail
Mail-in your rabies documentation, certificate of spay/neuter (if applicable) and a check for the appropriate fee. Make sure the owner information is included on the paperwork. Mail to:

To Renew Your Dog License Online
Follow this link to renew your dog's license. Our vendor adds a $1.75 convenience fee per transaction. Your dog must have a current rabies vaccination to utilize this option

The Town Clerk accepts cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit cards for all dog license transactions.
There is a $20 fee for any returned checks.
All dogs in the Town of Brighton are hereby required to be restrained by a leash no longer than 20 feet in length while off the owner's premises.
Under the Brighton Town Code, any officer or Animal Control Officer of the Town may seize any dog not on the owner's premises or any unlicensed dog, whether or not on the owner's premises. This is in accordance with Chapter 118 or Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets Law of the State of New York.
Stray dogs are taken to Pittsford Animal Hospital, located at 2816 Monroe Avenue. Their telephone number is (585) 271-7700. If a stray is picked up during non-business hours, it is taken to Veterinary Specialists of Rochester, located at 825 White Spruce Blvd. Their telephone number is (585) 424-1277.
The dog can be released once the clerk has proof of current license and payment of boarding and seizure fees. Unfortunately, if a dog is picked up after the close of business on Friday, you will not be able to redeem your dog until Monday morning.
Monroe County Dog Parks
There are now FOUR dog parks under the umbrella of the Monroe County Parks Department. The dog parks provides a legal recreational outlet for dog owners who want to exercise and socialize their dogs in a safe leash-free environment.
